Being an adolescent or a teenager is not easy, especially these days. Your self-confidence can be fragile and the smallest issue can seem like a cataclysmic event. Many children are embarrassed about the appearance of their smile because of the crooked alignment of their teeth. Some children also may be hesitant to get braces because they are self-conscious about having the braces seen by everyone. However, there is an alternative to orthodontic treatment called Invisalign, and it typically works faster than braces. Read on to learn more about this type of treatment.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a series of transparent plastic aligners, which use gentle pressure to guide teeth into their preferred, straighter alignment. The aligners are made to make a snug fit over your teeth. Although the aligners are removable, you need to wear them for 22 or more hours a day to see ideal results. You return to one of our three locations in Kentuckiana every few weeks to receive a new set of aligners until treatment is complete.

Can the plastic in the aligners make me sick?

No. The Invisalign aligners are made with a plastic that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

How do I maintain the aligners?

Just rinse them with cold water and a toothbrush. We recommend doing this whenever you brush and floss your teeth, a routine that does not change since the aligners are removable.

How long does treatment take?

The exact time frame varies from person to person but, generally speaking, Invisalign treatment can be completed in 12-18 months. By contrast, orthodontic treatment with braces usually lasts two years or longer.

How much does Invisalign cost?

We determine the cost of treatment on a case-by-case basis. We also believe that cost should never be the dictating factor in determining the level of care. For that reason, we offer in-house financing as well as a VIP membership plan. We also work with most dental insurance providers. Click here for more information about our financial policies.

Your teeth affect your self-esteem

Dental issues can have a profound impact on your self-confidence, especially for children and teens. This is especially true for children suffering from malocclusion (bad bite), trauma to front teeth, tooth loss and untreated decay. Children with traditional braces also may find themselves being more self-conscious. With Invisalign, you can straighten your teeth discreetly, as the transparent aligners are almost impossible to detect when worn. This discretion is also why many adults who need orthodontic treatment, or had treatment when they were younger and experienced orthodontic relapse, opt for Invisalign/
