Extractions

extractions

When you need to have a tooth removed, you want to trust that job to a professional and experienced dentist. Exceptional Dentistry offers extractions as part of our range of services to patients just like you in the areas of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Shepherdsville and Louisville, Kentucky.

When do you know you need to have a tooth extracted?

Our practice philosophy is to prevent tooth loss whenever possible. However, in certain circumstances, an extraction represents the best course of action.

These situations include:

A dental infection is a pocket of infected material that forms at the end of the tooth root and can be life-threatening if the infection enters the bloodstream.

At Exceptional Dentistry, we understand you are unique. That is why we determine the need for any extraction on a case-by-case basis. If you are unsure whether you need an extraction, contact us today to schedule an appointment.

What to expect when having a tooth extracted

To begin the procedure, the dentist will numb your mouth so that you are comfortable during the procedure.

However, extractions often result in mild discomfort and tenderness following the removal. In most cases, a patient can resume their routine the day after an extraction unless otherwise directed by your dentist.

Following an extraction, ensure that food particles do not accumulate near the extraction site and form an infection. You should brush and floss your remaining teeth as usual. However, after the first 24 hours, we recommend that you

rinse your mouth with warm salt water to help with the healing process.
