Why do dentists recommend dental implants?
An implant restores a full and healthy-looking smile. In fact, no other available tooth replacement looks and feels more like a natural tooth.
It improves chewing capabilities. Eat what you want with no fear of damage to your restored tooth.
It is durable. An implant could last decades or, in many cases, the rest of the patient’s life.
Implants stimulate the jawbone. No other tooth replacement provides the jawbone stimulation that came from the tooth root. This helps maintain healthy gum tissue, ideal jawbone density, and a healthy facial shape.
Get the facts on dental implants
An implant includes three components:
- The implant screw is made of a durable metal like titanium
- A crown that replaces the exterior of the missing tooth
- An abutment that connects the implant to the crown
How we use implants:
We can use a dental implant to replace an individual missing tooth, as well as to restore significant tooth loss. We can use implants to anchor a set of replacement teeth, whether you opt for hybrid dentures or locator dentures.
- Hybrid dentures are ideal for patients who need a full set of replacement teeth but do not prefer to get removable dentures. Instead, hybrid dentures use a permanent set of replacement teeth that permanently attach to four implants on each dental arch.
- Locator dentures are dentures made to snap onto dental implants for a secure fit. They provide a stable and secure fit, much better than traditional dentures.
Our dental implant process
Once you decide to make the commitment to your oral health and receive a dental implant, you will need to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists—Dr. Pat Carroll, Dr. Deb Shoemaker, and Dr. An Hamman.
At this meeting, the dentist assesses your oral health to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants.
If you are a candidate for dental implants, we refer you to an oral surgeon in the Louisville area. The oral surgeon will insert the implant screw. As you heal from this procedure, the implant fuses to your jawbone during a period referred to as osseointegration, which may take about four to six months.
Once healing is complete and the implant is deemed stable enough, we fabricate a custom crown that attaches to the implant, completing the procedure.
How much do implants cost?
The cost of getting a dental implant varies. Influencing factors include which tooth is being replaced, how many implants you plan to get, and whether you need additional treatments. We believe that finances never should be the deciding factor in whether you receive dental care.
We accept cash, major credit cards, and advance payment, as well as special financing options. Please see our website for more information regarding payment options.
Although the price of an implant is significant, consider it an investment in your oral health—a restoration that will last decades, if not the rest of your life.
