At Exceptional Dentistry, we use digital technology to improve the patient experience and our level of care.
Read on to see how we incorporate digital X-rays and photography into our daily operations to ensure you have the best experience.
Digital X-rays Digital X-rays
Did you know that dentists have been using X-rays since the 1890s? Dentists have used X-rays for decades to identify problems with the teeth and mouth that otherwise cannot be seen by a visual examination. Digital X-ray technology allows the doctors to see below the gum line to assess jawbone and tooth-root health. We also use X-rays to detect early signs of tooth decay and to devise treatment plans that involve smile makeovers, extractions, dental implants, TMJ disorder, orthodontics, and more.
What can you expect? We place a digital sensor in your mouth, which captures a panoramic image of the teeth and jaw. Rather than X-rays developed from film, the images taken through digital X-rays are available right away and can be viewed on one of the chairside monitors in our practice.
The Advantages of Digital X-ray Technology Include:
Superior images – Digital images are clearer and have higher resolution than traditional film-based X-rays. These advantages are helpful for diagnostic purposes or devising treatment plans.
Safer – Digital X-rays are a “green” choice and do not use chemicals that can harm the environment. Moreover, digital X-ray machines emit 90% less radiation than conventional X-ray technology.
More efficient – Since a digital X-ray device produces images more quickly, you spend less time getting X-rayed, decreasing your overall appointment time.
Your Dentist in Jeffersonville also can use Digital Imaging to:

- Track wear on teeth

- Photograph your teeth for before and after photos
Intraoral Camera
Digital imaging is a tremendous diagnostic tool for our practice and aids in patient education. Our intraoral camera is a small wand with the camera at the tip. It captures detailed pictures of your teeth, which can be displayed for you to see.
These images are incredibly precise; your dentist can zoom in to identify the slightest signs of a dental problem. These digital images also are a great method of patient education. Seeing is believing, and you will be able to see what your dentist is talking about when these images are displayed. This lets you have more confidence when making decisions about patient care and also can help settle certain nervousness and anxiety you may be experiencing about your dental care.
Digital imaging can also be used to gather impressions of the mouth to construct restorations, such as fillings, crowns, and veneers. Before, these impressions required placing a semi-solid mold in the mouth and having the patient bite down. Traditional impression material is messy, tastes terrible, and is uncomfortable. Now, digital dentistry changes your experience at the dentist!
