What are dentures?
Are you currently living with extensive tooth loss? If so, you are not alone. Approximately 40 million Americans have lost all their natural teeth. At Exceptional Dentistry, we can use dentures to restore your smile and, with it, your chewing ability and self-confidence.
A denture is defined as a set of prosthetic teeth attached to a base that looks like your gums. Thanks to advances in technology, modern dentures are more convenient, comfortable, and effective compared to their traditional counterparts. For years, people who had lost their teeth wore dentures but needed messy adhesives to hold their false teeth in place. Even then, economy dentures can fit poorly or slip or shift.
Dentures can be full or partial. Full dentures are a complete dental arch of replacement teeth. A partial denture can replace multiple teeth, blending with your remaining natural teeth. Unlike a dental bridge, these teeth do not have to be adjacent to one another, though they do need to be on the same dental arch. A partial denture remains in place thanks to a metal frame that attaches to your other natural teeth.
Exceptional Dentistry offers the following types of dentures:
FOY Dentures™
FOY or Fountain of Youth dentures are top of the line because patients who receive these dentures often look years younger. With the latest advance in technology, these custom-made dentures provide neuromuscular support and work to uphold the structure of your jawbones and facial muscles, looking to achieve both maximum muscular relaxation and optimal function.
Hybrid dentures
Also known as “teeth in a day” or All-on-4 dentures, this is a single unit of prosthetic teeth supported by four dental implants that are placed at strategic locations in the mouth. This is ideal for patients who have significant tooth loss but desire an alternative to traditional dentures. Patients appreciate the hybrid dentures because they are permanent and do not have to be removed.
Locator dentures
Using specially made dentures, locator dentures snap onto dental implants for a secure fit. While they provide chewing stability, they are still dentures that must be removed at night. This is considered the ideal choice for patients who want an affordable denture that is also quickly completed.
Why replace missing teeth?
- Self-esteem - You will look better and feel more confident because you can show your smile again.
- Stability - Today, even dentures that are not supported by implants fit better than traditional dentures.
- Nutrition – Regaining your chewing ability opens a wealth of new food options, including crunchy and chewy foods you may have avoided in the past.
- Durability – No matter what type of dentures you choose, your dentures should last for at least 10 years with proper care and maintenance.
